Re: HBO Flight of the Conchords Show - Season Two - Ep 5

Murray, Dave and Mel are all kind of one note characters which is why it's best to keep them on the sidelines where they can be appreciated more. I wouldn't group Murray in with Dave and Mel. Murray has shown he can be ambitious, depressed, horny, gullible, supportive, optimistic, critical, naive, ...

Re: HBO Flight of the Conchords Show - Season Two - Ep 5

A brilliant episode, I thought. I've been quite surprised at the quality of S2 episodes so far, I really thought they would have started to run out of steam by now. The ongoing Aussie rivalry is always hilarious, and has a particular resonance for Kiwi fans. A couple of stand-out moments: - Jemaine'...

Re: HBO Flight of the Conchords Show - Season Two - Ep 4

Oh yeah I nearly forgot - we do have biscuits that aren't dog food - they are these big honkin' doughy things: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/110/2732 ... a96c12.jpg - What do you kiwis and Brits call them?

Scones. They look lovely.

Re: HBO Flight of the Conchords Show - Season Two - Ep 4

I don't know what the kiwi outlook is on this, but in Britain we call things like digestives and bourbons and all that biscuits but call the American style chocolate chip thingies cookies. Cookies are always referred to as biscuits in NZ regardless of the type, although there is a company that mark...

Re: New Zealand bands

As far as Kiwi compadres, Eugene Mirman(the landlord) is performing this year.

Re: Greetings from Aotearoa

Hello I'm a moderate FOTC fan living in Auckland and have stumbed upon this suitably obsessive-looking fan site. It's been great to see The Cons go from a two minute spot on some lame late night Kiwi comedy showcase to become a sensationally successful international act. Happy to help with translat...

Re: HBO Flight of the Conchords Show - Season Two - Ep 4

Just a note on the joke about the NZ Army uniform of green shirts and shorts, this is an obvious (if hilarious) untruth.

It's actually those turkeys in the NZ Navy who go for the summer look:

Re: New Zealand bands

Thanks diva! When is the SXSW this year, March sometime? There always seems to be a heavy Kiwi contingent there. Partly because, of course, New Zealand Rocks!!!!< additional exclamation point optional . The only band really worth checking out from the Shakey Isles at the moment are The Mint Chicks (...

Re: New Zealand bands

Autozamm are awful, derivative and self consciously "jazzy" in the most pretentious way. The Bleeders are punk by numbers. The Brunettes are reliably excellent, very melodic and Nico-era Velvet Undergroundish. Cut Off Your Hands sound like one of those post-punk influenced indie bands that...
