Music for my fashion show... Any ideas?

Postby cassandrasnow » Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:14 pm

I've been wanting to ask you guys this for quite a while now. You see, my very exciting graduate fashion show will be happening in November. Each designer gets to select their own music to have playing while their collection struts its stuff on the runway. Because I think you guys are uber-cool (yes, I really do) I would LOVE your opinions and ideas on what music I should use.

I must tell you that I hate typical fashion show music... you know that sort of dance music crap that you'd hear in a club. Ick. My collection is a little bit quirky and I'd love something to match that musically.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated...

Since we know the genre you don't want (although I think Module has some very cool stuff that could work as it's more organic electronica), are there any genres you do have in mind?

Random bands/artist that I like that might be considered a bit quirky in style:
Age Pryor (you're not really surprised, are you?)
Beirut
Magnetic Fields
Bat for Lashes
Kings of Convenience
The National

Basically, do you want soft stuff? Strong? Happy? Dark? Summer? Winter? Instrumental? Vocal?

Probably leaning towards more winter.... not so summer. Vocals are prolly good too. Thank you so much indigo. Your suggestions are awesome. And no..... not surprised by the Age Pryor idea. Love that guy. :)

No Emile Simon (French/Pop) I'm guessing.....although when I listen to her music it sounds like it should be on a fashion show.

Devotchka and The Bird and the Bee are pretty good.

Ooooohhhh Devotchka, very good choice. And I think any of those electonic bands with cold sounding female singers are good for fashion shows, like Ladytron or Curve.

What does your collection look like? I mean a lot of different kinds of music come to mind but isn't the whole point to accentuate the look and feel of your line? And who do you want wearing you clothes? What kind of woman? Do you have some photos or sketches you could show us? I would love to see!

That being said, just as a shot in the dark:
Stonerider
Brian Eno
Nick Drake
Beth Orton
Screaming Trees
Pink Martini
Edith Piaf

Just an FYI-
 this is an old post from last year that got bumped by a spammer. I'm sure she's already had her show.
