I have to somehow come up with over $500 for car insurance in Nov, so it won't be any time soon. It is nice to see there are lots of cruises to that area, though. I love just unpacking once and seeing lots of different ports. Plus an oceanview at such a good price is very encouraging that there will be more such offers.

If you've seen any ads for Air NZ recently you'll know about their somewhat irritating advertising 'mascot' Rico - well they've finally killed him off and invented a 'solve Rico's murder' internet game. The winner gets a trip to LA or if you are already over there you get a trip to Auckland NZ!

C'mon you lot! Play the game, win, and come visit me! (It's quite a fun wee game too!)

This looks like a good read and Taika is on the cover!

http://www.tepapa.govt.nz/TePapaPress/FullCatalogue/Pages/NewZealandFilmAnIllustratedHistory.aspx

Page 8 of the sample pages mentions Flight of the Conchords, woohoo!

Page 13 of the sample pages mentions most of Taika's projects and there is mention of Jemaine, as well as the Humourbeasts.

How is it people on the other side of the planet always seem to know about these things before I do?!
I'm going down to Wellie for the World of Wearable Arts show again later this year so I'll take me a trip to Te Papa then and have a good looked! :D

Oh, sounds like a plan GreatH. Keep us posted! I would expect the Sarkie brothers to be mentioned too. :hrm: I wonder?

I don't know how you're able to see pages 8 & 13 but on the first introduction page what the heck is the name of that movie with the girl with the curly red hair? I've seen it but can't think of the name.

Also is it strange that Taika is on the cover? Aren't there bigger names in NZ than him? Or is it just that there aren't that many big names in general?

Wow the Wearable Arts thing looks awesome. I particularly like the Iron Maiden & the Pretzella. :)

SW It's an An Angel at My Table - the biopic of one of our more famous authors, Janet Frame. Excellent pic, well worth seeing if you haven't already.

Yeah there are other (and bigger) names, but he's the most recent and therefore probably the most recognizable right now. Especially since most of the others are all offshore these days. You might recognize either the names (or films of) Vincent Ward, Jane Campion, Roger Donaldson and of course Peter Jackson - but he get's enough press space as it is!

And the Wearable Arts WOW show is awesome! They have it every year and there's a museum down in Nelson (where it all started) dedicated to showing a selection of the garments so you can see the detail up close. The show has got so big and famous these days (lots of international entries every year!) that it outgrew Nelson and is now in Wellie. This year the garments are also going to Hong Kong to show so it's only a matter of time till it comes to the US as well. My favourites last year were the supreme winner the horse 'Hylonome', and the lobster 'Hermecea'. I also liked 'Reflection' and 'When Brunel Met Chanel'

The Wearable Arts photos were AWESOME. I'm baffled by the Illuminated Illusions section. Are those outfits? I need to see them in normal light. :hrm:

I remember seeing them being modeled and wandering around the stage (under UV light) at last years show... The eyeball on the iris one was stuck to the model's forehead or something! I do remember thinking the skeleton one was cheating a bit - though I can't quite remember why now  There have been some absolutely mind-blowing entries over the years

Ah yes thanks. Why didn't I know Kerry Fox was a kiwi? :hrm:

Having a hard time finding 42 Below vodka in these parts. I read that only the kiwi & honey flavors are available in the U.S. I wanted to try feijoa. :(
