Yeah there are other (and bigger) names, but he's the most recent and therefore probably the most recognizable right now. Especially since most of the others are all offshore these days. You might recognize either the names (or films of) Vincent Ward, Jane Campion, Roger Donaldson and of course Peter Jackson - but he get's enough press space as it is!
And the Wearable Arts WOW show is
awesome! They have it every year and there's a museum down in Nelson (where it all started) dedicated to showing a selection of the garments so you can see the detail up close. The show has got so big and famous these days (lots of international entries every year!) that it outgrew Nelson and is now in Wellie. This year the garments are also going to Hong Kong to show so it's only a matter of time till it comes to the US as well. My favourites last year were the supreme winner the horse 'Hylonome', and the lobster 'Hermecea'. I also liked 'Reflection' and 'When Brunel Met Chanel'
