Your Favorite Super-Low Budget Music Videos

Cheap and strange and funny Neil Young video from around 1983:

Beastie Boys' Sabotage with great extra cheapo footage

Might as well jump!
Reportedly filmed for $600

Oh, AWESOME idea, Mo!

While I go watch those, I'd like to put a good word in for one of my very most favourite ultra-cheap videos: It's Julia Nunes' cover of Destiny's Child's Survivor. On her ukulele. In her dorm room. I KNOW. It sounds like something you wouldn't subject yourself to by choice in unless you were a profound masochist. But it's so freaking amazing, I promise! And it is, I think, such a great example of how you don't need much money at all to make something truly great to watch.

Oh, edited to add this other one of Julia's: it's her version of Build Me Up, Buttercup, and I love to watch it whenever I'm feeling a bit sad and cranky. It's like YouTube Prozac, I swear. You'll love it. Promise.

.:: She's got two jobs. She's a pastry chef and a sniper ::.

I LOVE these videos for OK Go. Simple, low budget and FUN! I think I read somewhere that one of the band member's sister choreographs the videos for them and they record on a camcorder in the back yard. Cool beans. :D

I really like OK Go's videos, and they were a fun live band to catch!

This is really crappy and lo-budget, but it makes me cry laughing and I love Ronnie James Dio:

Pete and the Pirates have some fun, low-budget videos. Seeing them 5 times during SXSW, I'm head over heels in love   .

You can check out their clips (such as Mr Understanding, Knots, Lost in the Woods, She Doesn't Belong To Me) at http://www.youtube.com/jonnypirate

Pete and the Pirates are great! Good tunes and fun, imaginative vids. Thanks for sharing!

Here's an oldie moldie, REM's "Can't Get There From Here". Their first Top 40 hit, and this is a low-budget deal I believe set-designed by Michael Stipe:

I liked REM's early low budget videos.

Gotta love the captions. Don't know why they weren't used more often considering Michael Stipe's early tendencies to "mumble" his lyrics

Yeah.
My theory is that I started to lose interest the minute they put the vocals up in the mix.

Guh. I love low-budget videos so much more than than regular or high budget. They are so ridiculous and amusing. And the grain gives a nice nostalgia touch.

Okay, so I despise this song with a burning passion because it's one of those "HEY THAT GUY DID THAT ONE REALLY POPULAR SONG" and nobody knows their other songs. Like Creep with Radiohead. The video is quite genius, though.

Loser - Beck

This has to be the lowest budget video of all time. That's what makes it brilliant. Spike Jonze is one of the greatest music video directors ever.

Praise You - Fatboy Slim

Local bands often make the best low budget videos since they usually don't have much of a budget

I was in the audience for this video. Audience members provided the lighting with flashlights.

The Strange Boys - Woe Is You and Me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4crqVdIXyUk

I learned about this band last summer and became fast friends with them. When I first learned about them, I found their very homemade looking clip that was made by a friend of theirs.

Wine and Revolution - Trees

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OhsPVYu0N4

These guys are so adorably nerdy and dorky you can't help but love them. Built By Snow's videos reflect their love for space, video games, and zombies

Wow, ozbot, great memories! I still love "Loser" the song and the video.

And, man, tvldiva, those are some great finds! Those Built by Snow ones are especially amazing!

Here's a couple I still like, even though they are more aboveground:
Scapegoat Wax - Aisle 10 (Hello Alison)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgqAIzRmXaw

And yes, a classic. The Darkness - I Believe in A Thing Called Love, pure cheese on the screen.
