good news !!

Postby DangerMouse » Wed Jun 17, 2009 4:56 am

I have to crow about this somewhere so y'all are going to have to suffer

I just found out that I am NOT going to have to do a meet & greet for a work thing this year ! I have avoided having to do it since I have been there and this was the year they were going to force me to do it; but they changed their mind. Oh yeah let the celebration begin :partyman:

DangerM. I'm confused. In my mind the words "meet and greet" are still synonymous with "heaven". :yawinkle:

Please elaborate, if you can.

Yeah...why is it such a bad thing? Please enlighten me to the torture you would have endured. I need to know these things...

Would it involve being nice to members of the public? Or just random colleagues from far flung places?

Thanks y'all :D

I am a programmer... so it goes without saying I tend to be diffident and the thought of this upcoming thing had me a wee bit terrified. It is a work thing and involved meeting the public. I guess the higher ups realized this would not benefit anyone involved

So have y'all recieved any good news lately ?

That's interesting, I 'meet n greet' with people all day. So, I always have to be "on" with a warm smile and a witty retort at hand. It can get exhausting, to say the least. But I'm not complaining. I count my blessings to have a j.o.b. and be earning a decent paycheck! :)

I totally envy that you are able to do stuff like that. This is an annual event and people come in from all over the globe... so it is not the every day norm. My back up plan was to excuse myself to the bathroom for a few days  since it would be rude to come looking for me. I have been at my place for over 10yrs and it was the first time they were going to require me to do it.

I am not that good at small talk.... think along the lines of Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory here in the U.S. (kinda nerdy with very little social skills; but a wee bit cuter and a chick  )

I can do it for a while....most of our senior people/suppliers tend to be middle aged+ guys, so small talk can be a nightmare. Mind you, we're not really meant to talk much at work -email essential to keep me sane! No booze allowed either....

Nature's social lubricant is an essential when schmoozing :drinkers:. Of course, I can't drink at work either but we have occasional mixers and that's where all the networking is done

I can't go to those any more. I always end up doing/saying something shaming!
