Bret, will you go to the prom with me?

I may have you beat in height, but you win on overall bigness. Well done.

All hail the Queen. :prayer: I wonder how she got it to stay like that. What exactly is her Dippity Doo to Aqua Net ratio? ;) I had a punk rock friend with a very tall mohawk who on special occasions, when she wanted her mohawk to stand extra straight and proud, used to use Elmer's glue and water.

I don't want to brag again, but did you notice the size of my shoulder pads? I know I would win that contest.

Laura, I'm starting to see why you became a hair stylist. To save us from hairdos like that. We appreciate it.

Did you notice that Dena is wearing the same dress as me only my suspenders are black. :rolls: Shoulder pads!!! :purple:

I like this new trend of shifting the ridicule from ourselves to our friends, who conveniently aren't here to defend themselves.

My friend Kim on a particularly gravity-defying hair day.

My other friend Melissa. She had braces too, and when she smiled the effect was quite stunning.

The boys got in on the act too. Rock-n-Roll! :supz:

I haven't found any shoulder pad pictures yet. This is probably due to the fact that I was one of the few people in the 80s who didn't really wear them because they made me feel like an Amazon linebacker. But still, the pictures do exist. Nobody could make it through the 80s without donning a shoulder pad or two. ;)

I still don't understand the purpose of the shoulder pads. Why would you want to look like a linebacker? Any shirt I had with them, I took them out.

They were/are supposed to make your waist/butt look smaller (think along the lines of an upside down triangle)

Oh, that makes sense. Do they still make clothes with shoulder pads? I don't think I've seen them since the 80s.

I always took them out, too. My shoulders are big enough on their own.

My Mom and my aunt are twins and they still use them.
BUT...they're quite small and they're the kind that have velcro straps that you put round your bra straps- voila!

I remember the big hair and shoulder pads. I usually ripped the shoulder pads out too. I remember having blouses with shoulder pads, then buying blazers with shoulder pads (thus, double shoulder pads). It really was quite crazy.

I used to take the shoulder pads out too, they were annoying. My sister and I did the big hair thing too, we use to call the major backcombing & spraying of the bangs "the wall" (because wind couldn't flatten em  ). I wear glasses now, but I'm really glad I didn't back in the 80s (my poor sister did though...)

The double shoulder pads were always awesome. Awesomely awful, that is. Not that I didn't wear the double combo myself at times. The worst shoulder pads were the ones that got lumpy in the wash.
