There is a town just south of me that's actually called (wait for it) Cumming. It's even spelled like that. There isn't a whole lot there - I think it's still just a bar and a gas station. It's become a bit of a suburb in recent years due to its proximity to the medium-sized city where I live. The bar there sells t-shirts that read I Love Cumming, IA, with the "IA" in very small letters. :D

There's also a town in Newfoundland called Dildo.

There's a Whynot, North Carolina. The story is that they were debating what to call the town and someone finally said "Let's just call it Why Not and go home."

Hee hee

There's at least one place in Norway called Almost (Nesten). I have no idea why, but I like the signs that indicate the distance: Almost 9 km

Haha, there are some highly amusing place names out there. Thanks everyone for sharing :roll2:

SuzyBatt wrote:I know there are a bunch of odd-named places in Newfoundland but couldn't think of any at the moment so I googled 'funny place names' and came up with this:
http://www.squidoo.com/funnyplacenames#module2061376

Here are some particular good ones worth a giggle:
Buttzville, Pennsylvania
Twatt, Scotland
Muff, Ireland
Titty Hill, England
Wetwang, England
Bald Knob, Arkansas,
Whiskey Dick Mountain, Washington
Toad Suck, Arkansas
Dissapointment, Kentucky
blooming, Austria
and
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, New Zealand

And for the record, my sister lives on Neptune!

Will have to get back to you on those Newfie places 'cause they really are funny.

Haha, great list! I remember the Wikipedia entry to blooming, Austria:

Love the Mayor's quote
We had a vote last year on whether to rename the town, but decided to keep it as it is. After all, blooming has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr f*** or the f*** family moved into the area. The 'ing' was added as a word for settlement

In London some people seemed to be amused by a place calleed 'Cockfosters' which is located at the end of the Piccadilly Line (underground trainline). I remember there was once quite a loud Australian guy on a train who was very highly amused at the automatic announcer saying 'This is a Piccadilly line train to Cockfosters' at each stop.

There's also a street called 'Little Britain' (also the name of a TV show for those who haven't heard of it) in East Central London. There's nothing special there but I've seen people taking pictures near the street sign just for the fun of it :)
