Yikes! Good thing there's been no immediate report of damage.

I guess it would follow that earthquakes are frequent in New Zealand as it's located where the boundaries of the Pacific and Australian continental plates meet on part of the Pacific 'Ring of Fire.' Tokyo had a 6.6 earthquake a few weeks back, no? Hope that the upheavals slow down...for as long as possible. :worry:

(Thanks for posting that 4everCFan - and nice to see you in the forums again. :D )

Oh Jemaine....stop causing geological disturbances!

Seriously....it's kind of scary reading about how much activity there's been there recently. I guess they're used to it but it seems scary to me.

Well, as long as no one is getting hurt, Jemaine can keep shaking those hips all day long. :waggle:

Ahh, I love a good earthquake - really gets the adrenaline pumping!
Back when I was a kid our town was hit by an earthquake 'swarm' - apparently there was a new volcano/fissure or something building undersea, somewhere nearish offshore, and we felt 2 or 3 biggish earthquakes a day (and apparently 100s more we couldn't feel) for about 3 months! This was back in the days before CDs (yes, ok, I'm officially old!) and it seems like everytime you put the needle on a record one would hit! Earthquakes were pretty much the only conversation topic in town for the longest time...

Scary...but I'm glad nothing major has happened in a long time. Hopefully, it won't.

(And I'll be officially old with you...I had a record player into early adulthood. It's still down the basement, along with some albums and the cassette players and tapes...)

There have been earthquakes off Vanuatu, starting about 3 hours ago....1st a 7.8 magnitude, then a 7.3 15 minutes later. Apparently, tsunami alerts were issued but then cancelled. How scary...

I hope this is the end of the earthquakes in that region....I'm worried. My Yahoo homepage says that there was a third one, measuring 7.1...... :|

They were so big and so close together.....

I looked at the map and saw where you were, Peaches. What kinds of warnings did you get? If NZ got tsunami warnings, I'm guessing you did as well? (The Eastern coastal regions, I mean.)

I know. There are a lot of little islands near there...I hope everyone's ok.

We didn't get any warnings here in South Australia, but Victoria did and they're a lot closer. Tsunami warnings are very scary I imagine.
