Nope. I guess I like to defy the superstitions in a way, while listening to the ones in my head.

I also talk to me van and rub the steering wheel and figure she'll keep on going and going because of my kind regard.....

Hm. I won't say things like "I can't go _______ing with you because _________ is sick and I have to help out..." because then I feel it might actually happen. So I am a bit superstitious, I guess....

Interesting topic. I do knock on wood and believe in jinxes. In 2004, I wore the same clothes while watching all the Red Sox playoff games against the Yankees once they started winning, and then continued wearing them during all 4 World Series games until they won! Because of my outfit!
And then, Ben Affleck was on Regis and he told the story about wearing his same lucky clothes and not changing until they won the Series! How many of us wore the same clothes watching those games, and worried about jinxing it if we changed? And how gamey did we smell by the final game???

I found some interesting possible origins of Break a Leg:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Break_a_leg

I think for me the jinx stuff all stems from a kind of OCD - I found out I have a form, I'm a Counter. I count how many times I rub on deodorant under each arm, (God forbid I don't apply the same counts under each!) or how many times I brush blush on my face on each side, or eye shadow, etc. I had no idea I did it until a friend spoke of her son being a Counter. Whoa, something else to worry about now. :worry:

I think there are many more of us who are counters than we ever could have imagined. :)

I can recall obsessively counting the stairs as I went up them as a very young child...maybe 4 or so. I tap my fingers and they have to match....if I tap 4 on my left hand- pinkie-to-index, then I must tap the 4 on my right hand the same way. I also count everything square and give each edge a 2. The computer screen? 16.
2-4-6-8 for the inner edges and 2-4-6-8 for the outer edges = 16. I do it fast, almost without thinking, and always in my head. I do it most of the time. When there's a scene in a movie or tv show with a lot of people I try to count them all. I wiggle my toes and each one is a 2 and I like to stop on an even number. :worry:

No one close to me ever knew until I brought it up.
I don't wash my hands 50 times a day or have to slam the door 50 times or anything that's compulsive. It's just something I've always done and it's relaxing.

Isn't it strange, Laura? I never thought twice about it until my friend talked about her son being a counter, and as she described what it was, I realized i was one too. I also don't wash my hands 50 times a day, or have any other OCD habits, but the things I end up counting have to match.
It's weird you do yours in twos, I'm either 4 or 8. Must be the music thing. Like just now I scratched my left eyebrow 8 times, and had to match by scratching the right one 8 times as well. (They both were itchy, by the way :| )

Yep all fine thanks Nonch - am so far away I didn't even feel a thing.
But precious little work got done anywhere today as everyone has been glued to the TV. It's not good down there, not good at all. I'm hoping that death toll doesn't go any higher, though it is almost certain that it will. :tears:

So glad to hear you're okay, Great H. I was worried when I first heard the news last night. Everything I've seen and heard so far is just devastating. :(
