 That's gross. Poor Nancy.

I'm jealous. I love the theatre. And every one I've been to on Broadway was cozy. Part of the charm I guess.

Has anyone heard the music from Billy Elliot or Book of Mormon? Any good?

I've heard both nonch, and Billy Elliot features Amy's kind of brother-in-law (her boyfriend Kevin's brother) singing the first adult solo in the show. It's so much of a visual show, I doin't really remember the music being outstanding - it was nice, but seeing it performed was even better.
Book Of Mormon would get my Tony Award vote for Best Musical Score - it's incredibly well-done, with outstanding vocals by the male ensemble, plus the supporting actress (Nikki something, I forget) sings a song called Salt Lake City that the ladies were singing in the ladies' room at intermission. Both of the lead guys have terrific songs that I hope translate to cd well.

Most of all the music is terrific and the lyrics are truly clever. It was written by the South Park guys, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, PLUS the writer of the score for Avenue Q, which won the Tony for Best Scoreover Wicked! I would say it's up your alley, nonch!

I'm sure it will. With even the Mormon paper giving it a rave, it should pile up trophies during awards season.

Thanks, Nancy. I love soundtracks and I'm ready for a new one (or two). I wonder when they'll release Book of Mormon? I'll go sample some Billy Elliot on iTunes. 8)

I know they've recorded it. One of Amy's friends in it, Scott Barnhart, said it was amazing, and that the musical director was a genius during the session.

The Tony Award nominations came out today, and Amy's friend Josh got nominated for Best Actor in a Musical!

Book Of Mormon got 14 nominations! Susan Stroman's show which closed waaayyy too early, The Scottsboro Boys, got a ton of nominations as well:

I want to see Hairspray at The Hollywood Bowl on opening night but my price range limits me to Section H and back. Last time I was at The Bowl, I was in pool circle. I wonder what it'll be like to sit that far back for a musical.

Speaking of which, congrats to Nancy's daughter for getting cast!

Here's yet another contest to encourage people to come see a Broadway show. This one could get you a hotel stay in NYC, tickets to the Tony Awards AND two shows of your choice:

Amy just called to tell me the cast of Hairspray at the Hollywood, in which she will be playing Shelley, as she did on tour. Shelley has a solo at the end of Mama I'm A Big Girl Now, and she also grabs Link's leg and gets dragged around the floor as he's singing his first song. Note who's playing link Larkin :eyelashes:
