Once again...it's time for Jennifer's not-so-shameless musical plugs :P

*Buttercup

-They hail from San Antonio TX but they play in Austin frequently. They make very lovely and fun (and slightly offbeat) pop songs. You can check their tunes at http://www.myspace.com/buttercult or http://www.buttercult.com

*Tammany Hall Machine

-the singer's vocals are sublime ; he can go from a falsetto to a growl with ease ; imagine Ben Folds Five crossed with Jellyfish and Flaming Lips. Delicious ! ; you can check out their tunes at http://www.myspace.comtammanyhall or http://www.amateursaw.com

Enjoy ! :D

You mean the same Crowded House album I've had the past couple of weeks and still not got to playing?

Along with Amy Winehouse, who I adore, I really need to find the time to sit and listen to that one.

The official release date in the US for Time On Earth is July 10th.
I can't afford to buy import copies of CDs so I'm waiting for next week's domestic release.

I don't think I can beat that  . I've met Neil before briefly. I last saw him in Feb 2005 at a record store meet and greet. As he was signing my magazine, he asked me if we had met before. We had but I wasn't quite sure if he really remembered me or was just being nice  .

A new Crowded House review got a FOTC mention ; I copied this post from the CH "Tongue in the Mail" email list.

In the US, there is a National Public Radio program called "Sound Opinions," (which originates out of Chicago), they're reviewing "Time on Earth" this week.

"And... ouch. They're not exactly praising it. They call Neil's solo stuff, and Crowded House "twee." Also "really dull." They started playing "Even A Child" and commented that it's the most upbeat song on the album. They considered "She Called Up" a retread of "Something So Strong" and the entire ToE a "mediocre record." Another quote - "Give me Flight of the Conchords."

They did say though that Neil Finn fans around the world "are a cult following." I'll take that as a shoutout. ;)

If you want to cringe for yourself (really, it's not a good review), you can listen to the show here: http://audio.soundopinions.org/podcasts ... show84.mp3 -- they start playing DDIO around the 18 minute mark, and the review starts at about 20 minutes."

One of my favorite bands is a local Austin TX band called Household Names : http://www.myspace.com/householdnames. A few months ago , I was one of many people who made an appearance in a music video for their song, "Only One". I spotted myself twice ; I'm the woman with very short blonde hair.

You can watch it here : http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseacti ... d=12492087
