FOTC HBO Asia Blogger Event

Postby halokiti » Mon Sep 15, 2008 3:35 am

I saw a few blogs write about this, so I guess Asia is going to finally get some kiwis. Though I wonder if it's going to be dubbed or if the humor is going to translate.
They participants got to visit their editing studio, preview 2 episodes, and were treated to authentic New Zealand cuisine(which would be what).

HBO Asia also put up a very nice website, with an active blog too: http://www.hboasia.com/fotc

Nice swag bag:

Meat pies! Lamingtons! Filled rolls! Pavlovas! Cheerios! (Cheerios are little red party sausages – not the breakfast cereal) Peanut slabs! Fairy bread!
The delicacies *cough* never end.
Might be the odd Kebab too...

(But I'm guessing they actually went upmarket and served some fancy-schmancy lamb dish with some of our fab white wines)

Are any of these items NZ?
apple crumble, NZ seafood pie, chicken/celery wrap and quiches

roast beef with aioli, 2 kinds of bruschetta and a tossed salad

I don't think of those dishes would be the first things to spring to most minds when hosting a 'traditional' NZ theme party, but they are all still really commonly found things. I've had many an apple crumble in my day! Pretty much anything goes here these days when it comes to cuisine – there's a huge cafe/restaurant culture in the cities. YAY & YUM!! :D

I would imagine that the show will be shown in the original English, probably with subtitles in some regions. I lived in Japan and Hong Kong for a while and found that foreign channels like BBC Prime and Fox generally broadcast shows in the original language, so I'd imagine HBO would do the same.

Having said that though, many television sets in Asia are bilingual and so viewers can sometimes switch back and forth between the original and dubbed versions at leisure. Watching Monty Python in Japanese was an experience I will never quite forget!
