I'm so torn over the thought of a third season.

On the one hand obviously the thought of no new Conchords episodes is extremely sad (or, as Bret would say "really tirrible", complete with sad face  )...

BUT I do think that the premise of the show, unless they start to mess with the formula, is fairly limited. And I for one don't want them to mess with the formula, because I think it's worked perfectly for them. I think it's great for a show to end on a high, while it's still fantastic. A lot of british comedies do this really well (The Office, 2 seasons, Spaced, 2 seasons), and unfortunately a lot of American shows tend to stay on as long as someone's watching, and get wrung dry. And then everyone complains that "it's not as good as it used to be" and the whole thing turns sour :(

Also, I am of the opinion that the last episode, "Evicted" was an utterly perfect finale for the show. And not just because of the end, the whole episode. I'll go into more detail about this in the episode thread :)

But still, no more episodes...?

(apologies if this has been posted already but just in case it hasn't....)

i just read in the april 20-may 3, 2009, TV guide....on page 16:

ask keck - jonas bros special...(....while on the road, the bros will have plenty of time to catch up on their fave shows. here's what kev, nick & joe are dying to know...)

this was asked by joe jonas....
Q: "Flight of the Conchords is such a genius show. Will there be a third season?"
A: Conchords star Jemaine Clement says they're currently considering signing on for a third season with HBO. "The fact that it's Joe Jonas' favorite show will be taken into consideration," Jemaine says. "When we created the show, the Jonas Brothers were out target demographic." The Conchords' North American tour goes through May 25, and their second album drops in early summer.

i heart jemaine. more than life itself.

it's not about the prospect of a 3rd season or the release of the next album...

it's his rapier wit and intrepid, but eloquent, sarcasm. i LOVE that/him.

Jemaine's sarcasm is definitely something that makes the world a brighter place

Some of my favorite moments on the show involve his grumpiness.

my 2 cents on the matter...

I think that they are still considering it.. and because season 2 was such a task for them, perhaps being out on the road will get their creative juiced flowing on overdrive and they can produce more songs.. in turn, making it a bit easier writing eps?? I dunno... I hope they consider it, but I wouldn't hate on them should they decide to bow out now. I know they both have individual projects that they work on during the 'off season' so to speak, but I don't think we have anything to worry about regarding them 'breakin up' or never getting/doing stuff together. They seem like true friends and not just work partners... I think thats what I find the most endearing about them.. so genuine to themselves and down to earth. :goodman:

can't wait to see season 2 on dvd, though! I've been fortunate enough to see ep 1 of S2.... no HBO :( but its already on pre-order!

I do NOT want a 3rd season. I've come to start thinking I wish they could have made a film instead of the tv shows. But it's totally understandable--they needed to establish themselves.

What I hope they do, is take about a year off. Relax and get some ideas brewing, then possibly make a film. Which will be hard since they've already used up years worth of material.

Maybe they could just change the format a little bit to compensate. Less songs, maybe. I think it would be funny if they made a film about how it was when they moved back to NZ and people would make fun of their new NY accents. :D Either way, some of it would HAVE to be filmed in NZ.

They don't have a huge window to work with here. It's not like they can just take 5 years off and start over. I mean, Jemaine is what, 36 now? Not saying 36 is ancient (I'm 36 too). Just the content can't stay "I'm in a band trying to pick up chix" forever.

Oh, oh! And THEN they call me up and say "You're such an awesome fan, you simply MUST help edit this film for us!"

I'm content with the way it ended and it feels over and done to me. They took their shot in NY and while they had fun and a lot of adventures, they wound up home again, where even as shepherds they found joy in making music together. And apparently, Murray wound up as their shepherding manager, lol.
A very satisfying end, to me. :) At least now that I've had time to think about it.

That's one question I was not asking them the other night. They've probably had to field it hundreds of times already.

So, I will speculate that we'll always have our beloved 2 seasons and that will be it. Bret and Jemaine will go on to make tons of other things that we'll enjoy, without a doubt. :D
