Delirium, you're an absolute champion for screwing up your courage and going for it. I really cannot tell you how impressed I am at your bravery. I'm a city girl through-and-through, but I know just how cruelly intimidating they can seem when you're in unfamiliar territory. One of my very dearest friends is an Inuit girl from the Arctic Bay, at the very most northern tip of Baffin Island in Nunavut, and I love to listen to her tales of growing up on the ice, so far away from the bustling concrete busyness of the city. But she also talks about how utterly terrifying it was to fly into Ottawa for the first time, with the looming buildings and uncaring traffic and the throat-clenching fact of just so many people in one place at the same time. I can't even imagine how disorientating it must be. So don't feel badly about being overwhelmed by it all - yours is a rare and beautiful life, so please cherish your experiences away from the rushing city. And don't ever apologise for not being aggressive - truly gentle souls are few and far between, and we need more of you. Being gentle souls themselves, I'm sure Bret and Jemaine were incredibly touched at your quiet perseverance in waiting for them. Good onya!

mockingbird wrote:Also, this is slightly OT (well, OK, a lot OT) but it was interesting to see your portrait of Neil Gaiman (which is very good, BTW) because the whole time I've been coming to this board, whenever I see your user name I think of Delirium from Sandman. And, since you said you are a big Tori Amos fan (and supposedly Delirium was loosely based around TA), maybe I have not been reminded of it incorrectly. ;)

Aaaaaaagh! Gaiman fans! My people! I only recently discovered his work, but I am absolutely passionately, tear-my-clothes-off-and-run-naked-through-a-meadow in love with it. Right now, I'm listening to Gaiman reading Stardust on my iPod, and it is more deliciously wonderful than I can say. His voice! It's just........ Well, it's perfect. Perfect.

Jules, did you do your charity event-shearing? If so, how did it go?

Did either of you meet the guys afterward?

I shaved my head on 03/13 and it's grown in almost a 1/4 inch in just a month. I raised close to $600 for childhood cancer research, so I think it was quite worth it. However, I am ready to have my hair back now. 8)

I didn't try to meet the guys after the show, mainly because my kids weren't interested and this really was an evening for 'us', not just me. If I ever see them live again, I'll probably try to see them afterwards though.

dtree,

Oh wow, now I wish I'd stayed behind, and I wish you and I had been together, because I am definitely not shy and would not have brooked being pushed around and elbowed. I wouldn't have spoken up for myself, but would have had no trouble letting Jemaine know that you'd driven 7 hours to see the show and that you'd been pushed around by rude assholes.

I would like to say that most of those shovey, rude women were from out of town, and not Atlanta, but that's probably not true. I'm really sorry it happened to you, but I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay here.

Tell me, where did yall wind up staying? In town, near the Fox, or elsewhere? Did you bring the dog? Did you like the hotel?

I noticed your comment on Kristen's myspace. That penelope doll you made is awesome! We actually go to the same school. I apologize for my creepy lurking but you won't believe how thrilled I am to meet a FOTC fan from Chaffey. Are you going to any of the shows in California?

Ho hum. Mod hat donned and all that

Firstly what happened to Delirium was a great shame. Not a good thing. Crap. And other things. I'm sorry it happened and as others have said, hopefully take the positives and try to not dwell on the negatives.

Can I just say, while I can appreciate the gesture and hopefully the cheering up intent, I really don't like to see that fans here are name calling other women bitches (or however you want to spell it). Yes they were shitty for behaving the way they did. I'd like to think true fans would not behave that way. And I'd like to think that people here would not stoop to bitching about them and suggesting knocking them in return etc. It was crap, they were inconsiderate, rude and more. But lets not stoop to their level and behave in a rabble like manner eh.

I'm not going to edit or delete the posts concerned. I've said my thing, done is done and moving on. Just please rememeber What The Folk! isn't about name calling or bitching about others. Yes they may have been in the wrong, but there are other ways to respond to someones upset. And choice of wording ;)

Thanks.

Sorry Sherry.

For the record, I understand your concern about calling other women "bitches." I want to take back using such a derogatory term. I didn't intend to make WTF a place where members gang up on unsuspecting fans. I know that's not what this board is about. I hope you understand that it was a joke. A bad one, at that. I would never really refer to any of the fans at the Atlanta show (or any FOTC shows) as "bitches." Especially, because some of the people in the crowd pushing and elbowing could have done so by accident and may not have not been aware that they were actually hurting other people. In a situation such as that, I wasn't serious about fighting people off. I'm a passive, non-violent person. I just wish that the crowd (mostly women, I presume) could have be more cooperative and respectful of the people around them. I've been to a lot of shows where petite girls get smothered into large crowds, can't breathe, get pushed around and shoved (by audiences of predominately men)and it goes by unnoticed. I've been in the same situation and many other of the members here may have too. And yes, it's upsetting. I'll be more careful about choosing my words next time.

Well, I used a different word, but it still wasn't a nice one. And when I said I wouldn't brook being pushed around, I didn't mean that I would have responded in kind. Sorry if I gave that impression, because two wrongs definitely don't make a right.

Real life isn't a bulletin board and if someone pushed or grabbed a friend of mine and bruised her, (or me) you're darn right they'd get pushed back and hear a few angry words to cut it out for their treatment.

Rabble like? No, self defense. I'll certainly keep it off the board from here on out. :) :D

[Jemaine's story-telling voice from Albi]"And because I didn't say any bad words to the meanie girls, my bruises turned into butterflies and flew off into the blue sky, never to harm me again..."

And then we'd never get a meet and greet again. *sigh*

Do you really think that no one should respond to being pushed by pushing back or saying "get off me!?" or "take it easy! We'll all get a turn!" *sigh* The only thing to stop the meet and greets would be all-out fighting, and I'd never do that. As far as I knw, it's never happened. *knock wood*

Like someone else said, if Bret and Jemaine knew how she was treated, they'd have been none too pleased. If it had been witnessed by security? Maybe those mean girls would have been escorted off or to the back of the line at the very least.

No real life isn't. But you were not there, you could not do anything about the situation other than offer words of understanding and support after the event. Some of your words were I felt ill chosen. And not the kind of thing I've ever seen said on this forum. Talking as you did about what you would do etc was not something I felt really had any place here. Hence me posting and asking for this kind of talk to be left off this forum. It isn't what we are about here. What you chose to do in real life situations is of course your perogative, but I don't wish for my forum to be a place where such things are said. I have genuine respect for Jemaine and Bret and take pride in running a decent site. I've worked long and hard on this site and don't intend to let the tone or manner of the site drop or become overly negative in such ways as was posted. Yes the behaviour of those women was crap. I've said as much. But I still don't see the need to wander into saying things in return like that.

And of course, how you (or other people) choose to respond if confronted with that situation, up to you (them). But I don't wish for suggestion of knocking them back and giving them bruises to be made here. Feel free to PM those thoughts if you wish, but please don't post publicly.

Thank you

This really is the final word on the matter please. I had not wanted replies as it was, just for people to read, take on board and move on. Anything else you wish to say on the matter please do so via PM. Anything posted here in reply will be deleted.

Thanks.

Thanks everyone again for all the nice posts! Wow! This is such a nice group of people! I don't know what all to say or how to respond to everyone but thank you all!

I stayed in the downtown area at the sheraton, the hotel was nice and pretty much what you want in a hotel. Nice big tub! I do like a nice big tub! Dharma did come with me. I had no idea where to walk her or exercise her, so if I go to atlanta ever again I'll probably stay on the outskirts so I have some trees and land cause getting around downtown actually wasn't too bad. Getting lost in the city was my biggest fear, but if you have directions you can find things pretty fast. I get more lost more here at home so that was really good and I think outskirts would be do-able. I got a lot of weird looks from people cause I was sprinting back and forth with a border collie mix in the parking lot constantly lol. The city was kind of unsettling to her as well, but even though I'm sure we looked nuts, running calms her down so I didn't care. :D

No, no eyebrows raised by the poodle. lol He was just happy to be able to wag his tail again (matted to his leg) and that someone was paying attention to him. He's a black standard and he'll be beautiful once he's no longer nekkid. I'm the matted and/or difficult dog go-to girl for this area. The shelter and rescues here send me all their found dogs and I get neglect and difficult cases referred to me by vets. So that's my niche.

No, mockingbird you are not wrong at all. 8) I read anything and everything Gaiman does. I love anything that's well written with a nice dash of mythology and you gotta love Delirium. :D Thank you for the poncho compliment! I found it at a garage sale it says it's from tibet, which is neat and gosh it's warm lol. Turnip if you haven't read the Sandman comics you must get a hold of them asap, it's even better than stardust in my mind at least.
