May 16 - Red Rocks

Postby LauraK » Sat May 16, 2009 5:35 pm

This one should be really cool....I've seen (on DVD) The Moody Blues play here and it's a gorgeous outdoor venue. The acoustics must be good but I've never been anywhere like it. Looking forward to seeing/hearing about it. :)

Here's a link to the seating chart- http://www.redrocksonline.com/pages/que ... ating.html
If you hover your mouse over the yellow dots, you can see real pics of your view. This is going to be so beautiful with their lighting..... :D

Sherry I just checked weather.com and it looks like Denver is sunny and about 67 degrees right now - and it's slated to stay that into the night, where it'll be clear and about 55 degrees through the show and beyond :D

No WTFers going? Oh, I can imagine how lovely this one's going to be. I hope we get some first-hand reports.

Out in the desert....gorgeous starry-night, Conchords onstage in front of the rocks with the beautiful lighting....*sigh* I sure wish this one was being recorded.

I'm going, so I'll post a report. I'm sort of intrigued to see how this show plays out, since there are some unusual variables about Red Rocks as a venue.
-it's the biggest venue on the tour (8500-9000)
-it's mostly general admission (rows 20-40 are reserved.)
-Back in the day, the deal with Red Rocks was that you went early in the day, sort of lined up, then they let everyone in at 4, and you rushed in to get seats. And basically everyone was sort of hanging out drinking and smoking before the concert, which makes for a little more of a party atmosphere.
-Sometimes it rains, so you kind of have to keep amped up for the concert to keep warm. oh, and you are sitting on wooden benches, not comfortable padded seats. (we will be taking Snuggies (tm) and blankets.
-this is the one show with an actual musical act (Iron and Wine) opening, as well as Arj Barker.

So, it's gonna feel more like a "rock" show than other venues, and it's gonna be rowdy. I think anyone local who is going will expect that, but I think any comments about being a good/polite audience are going to feel out of place to me.

Everyone I know who's stood on the stage at Red Rocks when it's empty (it's a park during day hours), totally has this "I'm a rock star moment" looking out at the empty seats. I wonder if Jemaine and Bret will be able to resist that when they are on stage looking out at 9000 cheering, rowdy fans, or if they will give into the urge and get a little more rowdy than usual themselves.

I'm glad you're here, dustdevil! Have a blast- you're lucky to be getting such a unique experience tonight and I do envy you. :) Are you going to be taking pics/vids? Or do they have a policy against cameras?

I'll look forward to your report! :D

I can't help but think this is the perfect venue for Iron and Wine. It would be pretty heavenly to be out there under the stars being serenaded by his lovely voice.

I'm in love with this place! The venue looks incredible just by the photos so I can't even begin to imagine how cool it must be to be there right now.
Arj posted some cool pics on Twitter:

Also there's a good amount of tweeting going on right now with lots of pics before the show has even got started which isn't surprising since it's such an amazing venue. Looks like they're already having lots of fun out there:
