Here's a two part tutorial teaching you how to play White Sandy Beach :D This was the first song I learnt and these clips make it easy

White Sandy Beach with ukulele legend Israel Kamakawiwo'ole :

and his version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow:

The other reason I got into the uke; the fab Uni & Her Ukulele:

Thanks for the links, biscuit.
I love that version of Over the Rainbow, and will forever associate it with Anthony Edwards and ER. :( Very stirring.

I don't have a uke myself, only a guitar, but I enjoy seeing all the beautiful models available, and look forward to picking up an inexpensive one and naming it Youk, after Boston Red Sox star Kevin Youkilis. :D

Thanks for this thread, Sherry 8)

I'd love to learn how to play "Leggy Blonde", "Mermaids", "One By One" and "I Love You, Awesome" if anyone knows how or knows where videos are :D

Heh. A classic! I remember trying to learn to play that one when I saw that video. I got stymied somewhere along the way. I should go back and try again.

You can't see the uke being played in this video (although it's there in the background for some scenes), but I think it's a great example of how versatile the uke actually is and how it can be incorporated into contemporary music. In this case, it has been distorted slightly, but it's still definitely a uke.

Magnetic Fields - With Whom To Dance?

Along those same lines, there's also Beirut, particularly the song Postcards From Italy, one of my favorites.

You can find music/tabs for the song here.

I love that Magnetic Fields song. I've not heard it in ages. Max often used to play it to me in our dating days :)

It's so nice to see (and hear) that the uke really isn't just "Tiny Tim's instrument" anymore! :D

These are lovely videos - love your story about With Whom To Dance, Sherry.

Ukuleledisco.com has video of a trio of WIUO members - Gemma, Carmel, and a certain Mr. Mckenzie- performing three songs: Blue Smoke, Haere Mai and Ten Guitars. (I think I've seen a link to this video in the WIUO thread also)
I’ve had heaps of fun playing along to these videos. If you too would like to play along and create a WIUO quartet of your own here are links to the tabs:

Ten Guitars is on chordie.com. I used the transposing tool to change it to the same key that they are playing.

Ukulelehunt.com has a second video of the performance of Blue Smoke. For the tabs just click the red title below the video.

Haere Mai can be found in this Ukulele Songbook for school children in NZ. It also includes some other cute songs.
If you want to rock out and attempt Bret’s solo the tabs to the melody can be found here.
Those two Haere Mai links are pdfs. If they don’t open for you just google haere mai chords and they should be the 1st and the 4th result.

I was a complete novice when I tried playing these songs and found them easy to learn. So, even if you’re a beginner, try it. Uke can do it!

I figured I'd copy this post over from the WIUO thread, since it's also (obviously) very relevant here.
