A rule change was inevitable:

Oscars change rules after Bret McKenzie's Muppets win
2:33 PM Friday Aug 31, 2012

There will be more songs vying for Oscars at next year's Academy Awards.

The motion picture academy said there would be a minimum of five nominees in the original song category at next year's ceremony.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said the five nominated songs receiving the highest number of votes from music branch members will be up for the final award.

The voting process previously only allowed songs that earned an average score to be nominated.

Only two songs were nominated for the trophy earlier this year for the first time in Oscar history, with Man or Muppet from The Muppets winning the prize over Real in Rio from animated film Rio.

The 85th annual Academy Awards will be presented February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Bret could be involved in the next Muppet film. :D Cross-posting from the ONZM thread:

Stuff NZ:

More Muppet musicality could be on the way from Bret McKenzie, after he hinted at working with Kermit the Frog again following an investiture ceremony yesterday.

McKenzie was at Government House receiving a Queen's Service Order medal when he said another Muppet film could be on the table. "I am currently in negotiations with Kermit the Frog to maybe do another Muppet movie."

He said the green amphibian was "hard to get on the phone", and Miss Piggy had "nothing to do with the contracts.

Both Bret & James missed out tonight with their Grammy & BAFTA nominations. Midnight in Paris won the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack, Taylor Swift won the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media and Bart Layton and Dimitri Doganis won the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut. Never mind, the nominations are still great achievements. :)
