He was quite cute in Predicament despite the gothic styling & he did a nice job of creating a character & fully inhabiting it, as he always does. I must say that alongside the not so great acting Aussie and the skinny lead guy Jemaine looked considerably older.

So you're saying Heath Franklin did a bad job? I sort of expect Mervyn to almost seem like he's being overacted, being that he's a manipulator and a braggart... Oh, I so want to see this! It better get released on our region, dammit!

Great caps, btw. :thumb:

I think Heath did a perfect job as a con artist. His acting was supposed to look like acting. I loved when he scrunched up his face for his 'fake' cry and remorse over his dear departed dad at the dinner table. He was a real insincere sleezeball, but kind of likable.

If I play another non-region, it'll be stuck on that forever. Great H suggested the VLC player because apparently you can play non-region discs with it. I just have no idea how to do it.

Hm...you know, I do have Rhys's DVD Imagine That....I'll see if I can use it to figure it out. :)

Laura it would have been good if Heath played it that way but that wasn't my impression. I realize he was supposed to be a con man & that's why some of the acting was lame. I didn't find him in anyway charasmatic. The story itself is kind of big nothing to me so maybe that's why I'm underwhelmed. It seems like a fairly lightweight tale geared more toward a TV movie rather than a film.

See your PM Laura.

I loved the book and still want to see the movie, but I just don't have the urgency I once did.

NZ films to screen at the Beijing International Film Festival
10:12 AM Tuesday Apr 19, 2011

Two New Zealand films have been selected to screen at the inaugural Beijing International Film Festival.

Jason Stutter's crime comedy, Predicament, featuring Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, Heath Franklin and Hayden Frost, and Simone Horrocks' d├ębut feature After the Waterfall, starring Outrageous Fortune's Antony Starr and Sally Stockwell will both screen as part of the festival's film panorama programme.

The two films would join a line-up of top films from around the world, including this year's Academy Award winners, New Zealand Film Commission chief executive Graeme Mason said today.

Stutter will travel to Beijing as a guest of the festival, to be held from April 23-28.

"I am honoured to have my film selected for Beijing and to be invited to attend," he said.

"I am a huge fan of Chinese cinema, especially martial art movies, and I'm excited the festival ambassadors are Jackie Chan and Crouching Tiger's Ziyi Zhang."

Horrocks, who was unable to attend the festival, said it was a great honour to be invited to the birth of this new film festival, and have the opportunity to share After the Waterfall with Chinese audiences.

;) I wonder if the people at the Beijing Film Festival are aware of his contribution to this genre, lol.

That's great news - I'm happy to see it getting some recognition. :thumb:
