I thought I'd create a new thread for Jemaine & Taika's HBO show to add in more information as we get it.

So far we've heard both Jemaine & Taika talk about writing a TV show together while promoting WWDITS and in an interview with the Guardian earlier this week, Jemaine mentioned that a four part, comedy has been commissioned by HBO:

HBO have commissioned a new, four-episode comedy show from Clement and Waititi, he reveals. “It was supposed to be this year but then we decided to put What We Do in the Shadows out ourselves.”

Also during a radio interview with Triple J, Jemaine confirmed that he is writing the TV show with Taika which isn't related to WWDITS (and is not Flight of the Conchords related, contrary to all the rumours that have been circulating).

Very intrigued to find out what it's about. :D

I wonder if Bret will be involved.

And I wonder if it'll be something they write together and also appear in (hoping) or simply write for other actors (hoping not.) :)

Agreed, Laura. I'd love to see them on screen too. Jemaine has talked a bit more about the HBO show and said Bret could be involved :D

Jemaine Clement says his new, non-Conchords HBO will be an anthology series, if it goes forward. Bret McKenzie may appear. #TIFF14

Jemaine talking about the HBO show:

Clement denied a report that he and McKenzie are working on a new miniseries for HBO. Instead, Clement said he and Waititi are collaborating on a pilot for the cable channel, but he couldn't provide many details.

"It's not 'Flight of the Conchords,'" he said. "We're writing some pilots... Each episode would be different and about a different set of characters, but they may be played by the same actors.

"We don't know if it will happen, though. But we're writing it. So if it doesn't happen, maybe we'll get you to read it."

I am definitely looking forward to a new series of pilots...

They all play different types of characters in each episode sounds really fun.

They're currently working on writing an anthology show for HBO. They say that it will be done in the same format as shows like Black Mirror, but as half-hour comedy episodes. Each episode will have a different story and some episodes will have the same actors. Clement says the episodes could range from being written in the genre of a '70s sci-fi flick to a silent film

First up, Black Mirror is an amazing show!

Secondly, the anthology format sounds great. Jemaine's description reminds me of a really good dark British comedy called Inside No. 9 (written by Reece Shearsmith & Steve Pemberton of The League of Gentlemen) which is an anthology and also had a silent film episode. Can't wait!

Just watched the first two episodes of Black Mirror. Excellent. Would love to see Jemaine and Taika's take on the genre.

Glad you're enjoying Black Mirror. It's a very clever show. Since Black Mirror is a drama with an interlinking theme of technology, J & T's show will pretty be different as their's will be a comedy. But the anthology format like Black Mirror is exciting as each episode will be a completely different story. :)

Judd Apatow is now on board to produce this show!

I always thought he would be on board for the FOTC movie since he's a fan of them & I think he's hinted about wanting to work with them some years ago but then I thought that would be unlikely since he announced he was working on The Lonely Island's movie.
