Conchords Bobble Heads

Postby RubyRed » Sun May 31, 2009 11:00 pm

So I'm in the final design phases for some bobble heads I'm making and I could use some help. I'm not 100% sure if I like the clothes. For Jemaine, I always picture him in that blue tee with the deer and full moon from One Night Stand. Bret, I can't separate from that bright yellow tee and orange/gray ski vest thing (the outfit he wore during the angry dance in season 1 of the show). So, I wondered what YOUR favorite outfits are...

These are the sketches. Next week I start work on sculpting the heads out of polymer clay and once I settle on the clothes, I'll begin work on the bodies. Once the clay sculptures are done, I'll make a mold and cast the figures in resin.

Any input is totally appreciated.

Those look really nice! I'd say Jemaine needs to look more grumpy and Bret should look more mopey, but that's just me. As for clothes, Jemaine's denim jacket and Bret's stripey jersey are almost iconic. Again, just me. :)

No, that's why I posted the images...a fresh eye always helps in the design process. :D

yes, a slightly grumpier Jemaine would be good.
And ooh ooh! could you give him a raised eyebrow? :D
It's all about the music.

Wow Ruby Red! You are a talented woman! And I thought bobble-head design was a mans game.

Seriously, they are gonna be great. I concur with BadAtom on the outfits and YES the eyebrow would be nice! Will we be able to purchase?

Yeah, I agree with Bad Atom, too. Does anyone have any reference pics of the outfits readily available? And I'll give Jemaine his cocked eyebrow.

As for purchase, we'll have to wait and see. If all goes well with the mold-making process, anything is possible! But I'll be regularly updating this thread on my progress. I did an Adam Ant sculpture a couple of years ago and would regularly update the thread on the Ant board from armature to finished sculpture. People seemed to really get a kick out of it.

I'm really picky about detail so these sculptures will probably take a couple of months to complete depending on how much time I have (and I'll be taking time off to do the tour video).

Bret's got the DG-20, which is awesome. Jemaine and the guitar works well, but the Omnichord might also be a great alternative... especially after the recent tour!

I loved it, too......:)

Those gidgets are too cool! Bret looks a bit too surprised but she/he did a great job on them- great attention to detail.

I might consider the Omnichord for a second edition (if I can successfully pull off the first edition, that is).

Unfortunately I haven't had time to work on these because the video is taking up all my free time. Not that I'm not loving the video, I totally am...I just wish there were more hours in the day. *sigh*

This is a really cool idea and I can't wait to see the final product but I know the tour video must be taking up a lot of your time right now :)
