And wasn't Inner City Pressure influenced by the Pet Shop Boys? Not that I'd know, or anything....

I think we're talking about two different things here - I wouldn't say they were influenced by Donovan or Kelis or Pet Shop Boys or Barry White, lol. They're parodying them. I think it's a lot harder to ferret out their actual musical influences. It's interesting to me to hear Jemaine say TFL is their biggest influence. I guess he must be speaking purely musically but I would have expected a not-so-serious band to be their biggest influence. Clearly they do take their musicality very seriously though, they're both great musicians. I don't really see a similarity actually but then again I don't know a lot of TFL's songs, so maybe if I did I would see it more.

jason was asking about homages and/or influences.

And I'd bet a big clue to their influences would be Jemaine's interview on Radio NZ.

And, why mock, you wrote a post about it! :D That's handy.

But tell me how to get em at MS and I'll do it. That's one I'd like an alert for. :)

Did you guys click on the link?? Alien Dicks, lol..... :) have yet to check it all out but I plan to.

That's true, I just felt like the line between the two was getting kinda blurry I guess.

 That's also true. You know sometimes when I turn on the radio I get all excited - "Is that FOTC???" and then after a second I'm like, "Oh... no, it's Supertramp." ;) No but really, I agree that the radio show is probably a pretty decent clue to their influences.

I agree, I was using influence and I meant homage/parody. As far as groups they've mentioned as influences, I remember Bret saying Hall and Oates was a favorite.
