Chat Show Confidential

Postby thestray » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:32 am

Talk about late-night TV here. Especially the madness of the last few weeks. Thanks! MM

Fixed.

The text might go on the bubble, or under... or over. Whatever they suggest. I haven't heard back from them yet, so I don't know, might end up using the image somewhere else if they don't respond after too long.

Also... did this...

 :supz: AWESOME!! I agree with the sentiment but I hope Conan tells them where they can stick it if they beg him to stay....NBC and Jay are starting to feel the heat, I bet.

Thing is, I like Jay....I just don't watch him any more. I'd like to see him hosting and participating on a classic car tv show.

I used to like Jay too, then after a while the only parts I liked any more were Jaywalking and Headlines, and the rest got kinda stale and I'd only watch it if a guest I liked was on.
I'm mad at NBC, but you can kinda expect this kinda thing from them, the network doesn't care about their talent, they're just commodities to them. But Jay I'm kinda disappointed in, because I think if he had respect for Conan or the Tonight Show legacy he'd immediately decline to bump him. He's been mum about the whole thing since Conan released his statement. He should've retired to begin with after he left the Tonight Show, gone to Vegas or something, or like you said did a car show, but he threatened to go to another network and be in competition with Conan, that's how he got offered the 10pm slot.

...that's my rant, haha. I'm sure Conan will go on to do something awesome no matter what. It sucks that he has to lose the Tonight Show though, which has always been a dream of his.

I hadn't watched Jay's Tonight Show in a while and I didn't watch his new one. He was too tame and redundant and not as funny. Outside of the show, I liked him fine.

Til now. :hrmpf:

I soooo hope that if he goes through with this, he bombs again. I hope the majority of people boycott the show.

I loved Conan's stuff at 12:35 better...he's had to tame it down for 11:35. I hope he goes to cable.

I really think the funniest guy in late night is Craig Ferguson. He slays me, he's so damn funny, self-deprecating, and quick on his feet.

Do you think that if Jay realizes what a mistake all of this is and puts the kibosh on it (Wow, how old does that sound??) and NBC asks Conan to stay put that he will?

I'm having fantasies of him and his staff (who all packed up and moved across country 7 mos ago...) carrying pitchforks and torches and burning down the studio as they leave......

I liked Conan at 12:35 better too, but I think his Tonight Show was steadily improving. Plus he was in LA! I didn't get the chance to go see him while he's been here, and now who knows if I ever will. I hope he stays out here so I can attend whatever he does next. NBC has really screwed themselves though, this is a PR nightmare for them, I hope Leno bombs horribly and teaches NBC a lesson about how to treat their talent.

Craig Ferguson is alright. He doesn't hold a candle to Conan to me personally. I like Jimmy Fallon too, I know a lot of people haven't gotten into him, but his show is fun if you actually give it a fair chance.

I have never been a fan of Leno, I just don't think he's that funny. He just needs to move on.

I love Conan and I agree with Laura, I think he was funnier at 12:35. Craig Ferguson is really funny too, but I think part of that is I really love the Scottish accent. :D

I love Conan, I think he's been ready for the Tonight Show for AGES. As for Jay...he's alright, but he uses a joke once and then recycles it all throughout the week, sometimes saying it the same way the very next night. C'mon man, time to move on. Also, I heard that he lives off of just his standup money, and the money that he makes from doing TV is in the bank...so it's not like he's hurting for it or anything. I agree with whoever said it above (and I'm admittedly too lazy to go check) that if Jay had any respect for Conan or the show he left behind, he would refuse to bump them back just to keep himself on TV, it's disrespectful and rude.

Yeah that was me. He should've been like "No way, that would be unfair to Conan." but either he doesn't care, or has no spine. At any rate, I think Conan will ultimately have the last laugh. He's a talented guy and he'll be a hot property, and he's done a good job of publicly embarrassing NBC for this whole mess. I don't think there's any way Jay could do the Tonight Show without damaging his image.

I feel lucky that I had the chance to see Conan live at Universal in November. It's a lot of fun! Coco even sang a closing song for us after they wrapped up the show.

Agreed.

I decided to watch Leno tonight, to see if he would actually say anything about what's going on. I'm glad I did, because he had Jimmy Kimmel on for a video segment. Kimmel REAMED him, haha, it was hilarious and brutal and a little bit awkward, haha. If you missed it, here it goes: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/jimmy-kimmel ... leno-show/
I wonder what Leno was thinking, because the other night Kimmel did a show mocking Leno, he did his whole show AS Leno, haha: http://www.hulu.com/watch/120279/jimmy- ... s-p1-so-i0. I guess Leno (or his producers?) thought he would have Kimmel on, they'd kid around with each other about the whole thing a little and people would see there's no hard feelings and he's a good sport and it would help him not look like a bad guy... well, if that was the plan it totally backfired, haha. Leno was laughing but you can tell he was getting a little p'o'ed.

So for those who aren’t familiar with Jay Leno’s “10 At 10″ – most of you, probably – here’s how it works. Leno asks 10 questions that are fairly benign, the celebrity who is appearing via satellite (oh, technology) answers them and then they move on to Jaywalking or Headlines or something. I think. I only really started watching the show this week. But tonight it was Kimmel, and he was a hilarious pain the ass.

Let’s fast forward to question 4: “If you got to interview anyone in the world, who would it be?” Kimmel: “You and Conan together.” And then it begins.

What’s the best prank Kimmel ever pulled? “I told a guy that five years from now, I’m gonna give you my show. And then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then I took it back almost instantly,” said Kimmel

There was a lap dance question. “Strippers, I don’t like in general,” said Kimmel. “Because you have this phony relationship with them for money, similar to when you and Conan were on the Tonight Show together, passing the torch.”

Leno asked “What would you like to host that you haven’t yet?” Said Kimmel: “Oh this is a trick, right? Where you get me to host the Tonight Show and then take it back from me? Listen Lucy I’m not Charlie Brown I don’t fall for that trick.”

Conan the Impaler

The Splay Leno Show

Conan Gets the Late Shaft

Carson Daly's Last Ball
