If I was to get one based on who I owe my uke craze to, I'd have to get a biscuit themed one. Stalkery sounding I know, but it's true. I'm a fan :D

But if you did I'd hold you tight / Into every single night
And we'd fall asleep together / And we'd wake up in the sunlight
Well, maybe I'm a dreamer / But maybe one day you'll see / That dreams are...

He made it for someone. :D He's close...near Flint! But he only makes a dozen or less per year so the prices would probably make me faint.....

I might have to send him an email just to say how beautiful his work is, though.

Do it, Laura, do it! You'd be surprised how much artists love hearing a compliment.
Stephen Sondheim used to come into this theater restaurant where I worked, and after I had seen Sweeney Todd, I shyly went up to him and told him how much I had enjoyed it, but that he was probably tired of hearing people tell him that. He said, "Oh no, never. I never get tired of hearing nice things about my work."

I would bet he'd be very happy to hear from you. Just think - possible pics with the uke of your dreams!

You met Stephen Sondheim! :thud: 8)

I'm def going to let him know how much I admire his work....the few sound files of his ukes I've heard sound so lovely- crisp, beautiful tones.

Yup, I had a few friends in Sweeney when it came out, so I prefaced my compliments with saying "I'm a friend of..... ". We used to see a lot of the entertainment heavies. It's one of the perks of checking coats in a NYC theater restaurant. :eyelashes:

I'm glad to hear you're going to contact him, Laura - make sure you let him know you ONLY live xxx miles away, and would love a pic with his Jack uke. :D

But I really don't think he has the uke any more. It says it was made for Graham Wakeman. You know I'm going to gush about that uke though! :D

Ohhhh, so namedrop, Nancy! Who else did you meet?

And btw, who was playing Sweeney? Was it George Hearn? (I have a VHS copy of him as Sweeney.) Or earlier...Len Cariou? Or more recently? I have no idea who's playing him now...a bald dude, lol. I like Johnny...

Lol....I sent him the email not too long ago. Who knows if I'll hear back. I was probably too gushy, but it's all true! A commissioned-by-Dave uke is on the list of things to get when I win that lottery....

:offtopic:
Laura - I saw it with Len a lot, then also with George. We're friends with the Toby and Joanna on the tape. Don't get the name-dropper started! :tsk:
(I'll never stop - I gush as much as anyone, but just try to keep cool when biggies are around)
:topic:
I really hope he answers you and invites you to see his ukes in person.

:thud: That is so cool, Nancy!! And to have seen those shows....wow. :D I'd be name-dropping!
(I'm a bad Sweeney fan, as the movie is what got me interested in the Broadway shows. Angela Lansbury was so different from Helena but wow- can she belt it out!)

I asked him if he had a shop I could visit or if his work was all strictly private-made commission work, so we'll see. :)

I will be crossing my fingers that he has a wonderful uke collection in his workshop, and he invites you to visit.
