Speaking of Natalie Portman, Thor was pretty crazy and great. I have 2 monitors at work now, and Thor's one of my wallpapers. MMMM. hmmmm. I don't usually go for the cut, perfect blond types, but I'll make an exception...

I went to see HappyThankYouMorePlease yesterday and loved it :) has anyone here seen it? It offers a far more realistic depiction of NYC than most movies or TVshows I've seen before.
But if you did I'd hold you tight / Into every single night
And we'd fall asleep together / And we'd wake up in the sunlight
Well, maybe I'm a dreamer / But maybe one day you'll see / That dreams are...

If this is showing anywhere near you, drop everything and see it now:

It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, but didn't win. The competition must have been pretty darned steep. It's a very compelling story, one of the most well-acted, well-written, and well-directed films I've seen in a long time.

Looks really good...I put it on my save list at Netflix. It's showing at 1 theater here, but with school out I won't have the chance to see it. Thanks for the rec! You too, Amanda- I added HTYMP to my queue. :)

Thor is something we plan to see together soon! :)

Has anyone seen The Green Lantern yet? I've been hearing it's a turkey and I can't believe it! The previews looked excellent...

No, Laura, I saved my pennies and saw Stephen Sondheim's Company this week for $18. It's also playing tonight and I think a few more times at select theaters across the country.
Neil Patrick Harris stars, and he is terrific. Stephen Colbert and Jon Cryer also star and definitely do the material justice. January Jones is hysterical. And although I'm not a big Patti LuPone fan, she won me over with her performance.
It's filmed from a live performance they did with the NY Philharmonic. There's just enough suggestion of sets and 70s costumes to set the proper tone for the show, but the staging is pretty full out, as is the cute choreography. I only wish the volume had been a smidge louder for that "movie sound" experience, but it could have been the venue.
It's a very good production of a Broadway classic. I'd recommend it. I'll also post this on the Theater thread.

I saw it at LA Film Fest the day after the premiere. I'm not crazy about it. I will say that Peter Sarsgaard is really good at playing the creepy villain though. His transformation throughout the movie was a little disturbing and probably the best thing about Green Lantern. Taika's parts were sparse. I think he's wonderful but the addition of his sidekick character didn't really do much for me.

That's what my friend said. Not much Taika, but the Green Lanterns are great. He's holding out hope for the second one.

I saw Kung Fu Panda - it had some suprising emotional texture for a kid's cartoon, and the artwork was magnificent, mixing 2-d and 3-d animation. It's the only Dreamworks series that consistently rivals Pixar or some of the one-off European cartoons for creativity. And of course, it's funny as hell.

I recently rewatched The Piano, and had completely forgotten that it took place in New Zealand. Something has been bugging me though..why did Ada send Baines a piano key with writing on it, when she knew he couldn't read? Anyone know?

So seriously effed up! Peter Jackson...genius. I love Melanie Lynskey's character on Two and a Half Men. (don't judge me...hubby watches it) She plays a delightfully strange, unbalanced stalker who finally gets her man. :thumb:
