Austin TX - 5/7 show

Postby poptartgirl » Tue Feb 24, 2009 3:56 am

Anyone else from this forum going besides myself, tvldiva, and Deirdre ?

I'm going with 2 other friends who occasionally read this forum but don't post. I'm very grateful to them because I go over to their house every Sunday to watch the show  .

Hey- maybe we can all get together before hand and have a drink or something? Me, D and her hubby Seth are going together.

That may be a possibility since the 2 friends coming with me work on campus near the venue.

That would be very cool. Maybe even car pool in. I'm looking for a hotel for D and hubby right now. Too bad the Texas senate is still in, they are running up the rates at all the good hotels.

On a different note- the Texas Motion Picture Alliance is holding a rally on March 4 on the steps of the Capital. This is to show support for the bill(s) hopefully being signed that day to raise tax incentives for movie and TV productions in Texas.
If you can make it --GREAT!!! If you know anyone else that maybe can make it, here is the link for the info.

I do most of my business with productions and Texas is being killed by Louisiana and New Mexico. For god's sake, the movie W was shot in Shreveport LA. blech...

Is the concert on Campus? If so, where in the heck do we park? That place is crazy when it comes to parking. Also, wanna eat at Veggie Heaven across the street? It's Asian food. Or maybe Torchy's just north of campus on Guadalupe. Two of our favorite Austin food establishments.

It's on campus but it's closer toward I-35/Red River area. I don't know where Veggie heaven is, but I can bet it's no where near Bass. Actually, I don't think anything is within walking distance. UT is a big freakin' campus. As for parking, there are several garages nearby for the hall.

Yeah, there are a couple within walking distance but none I would want to go to. No biggie, I'm sure Veggie Heaven will be the place since I know Deidra is already craving it! :teeth:

Veggie Heaven and Torchy's are on the drag. And I think we will probably eat there dinner time which is way before the show. So we can meet wherever you think is close to Bass closer to the show.

Deirdre, I highly recommend Eastside Cafe, Hoover's Cooking, and El Chile. They're both just east of I-35 on Manor Rd. Red River Cafe isn't the greatest (OK diner fare) but it is definitely close to the venue.

I've been to all of the above, all very good. I wouldn't really recommend Hoover's because Deidra and hubby are vegetarians. Sure, they'll have some options but not much! Everything is probably cooked with/in bacon... :tonqe:
Eastside Cafe does grow a lot of their own veggies and I'm sure their menu will have more to choose from.

I'm getting off work a couple of hours early so I have time to relax and enjoy dinner before the show.
Although Red River Cafe's food is not amazing, it's wonderfully close and convenient to Bass Concert Hall. My friends, Janet and Renee, will be with me. But we haven't made a final decision on where to eat yet.
In the meantime, I'm praying for well behaved fans. But then I have flashbacks to "hecklers" at their SXSW showcase 3 years ago  .

Are you guys going to stay after the show for the possible meet and greet? Because I have no idea where we are going to be before the show. But keep me updated.

I don't remember hecklers at SXSW, but I was right at the stage focused on the guys. There could have been a fire behind me and I wouldn't have noticed.
