April 24- Detroit, MI. (8 pm)

The other was about tickets. Thought we needed a show thread, especially since this will be another fine turn-out of WTF'ers. :D

Unlocked now :) What? You weren't worried were you? :bounce:

Can we please try to keep it to gig stuff, reports, pics etc. Pre gig can still go in the active Detriot thread.

Kelly texted me and said no problem getting the camera in. :) Hopefully the same will be true for Ardy. She said the seats were awesome!
(This was while I was in the shower, )

Eugene's on now......:D

I just did a quick twitter search to see if there were any updates on the show and it looks like their evening has already has been eventful. One person is reporting a 'girlfight' between 2 girls in the front row during Business Time. Can't wait to hear the full story

Yes! I just got a text from my friend about the girl fight! And they got kicked out! I was like "Really? At a Conchords show?! What the flip?!"

Just got back from the 8pm show --- AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My cheeks hurt from smiling so much!

I'm so hoping someone got pix. Did you guys see me?!? I was the second girl that Bret grabbed to get those Sugalumps! :) and they were right in front of me when they were sitting on the stage during that song. I totally thought Bret was going to fall off the stage!

I was also the one Bret said "So how are you doing lady?" to at the beginning of the show  (I said 'GREAT!')

They were fantastic! I can't remember the whole set list or what order but here goes:
Too many dicks on the dance floor, Carol Brown, Albie the racist dragon, Business Time, Evil woman, Sugalumps, hiphopopotamus v rhymenocerous, mutha'ukas, I told you I was freakie, hurt feelings(?), and a few more I'm forgetting.

Unfortunately we were seated by two girls who kept screaming 'we love you Bret' & "we love you Jemaine' and they were texting thru out the whole show and drinking - ugh. The shouting kind of got old. Although at one point someone yelled out 'Rock the Party' and Jemaine said something along the lines of 'We haven't practiced that one...' But they broke out into a short version of the song and afterward commented about how instead of talking back to the heckler, they just went with it.

In the middle of Business Time 2 girls came up to the stage and one of the bouncers was trying to get them to leave and they were looking up at the stage pleading to let them stay and Jemaine said 'Don't bring me into the middle of this' And they waited until the girls were cleared out before they started back into the song...at which point Jemaine had to ask "Now where were we?" LOL

Eugene Mirman was really, really funny! He had this whole bit about Delta Airlines losing his baggage and handed out postcards that we are supposed to mail in on his behalf. I'll scan it in and post when I have a chance tomorrow.

I know I missing a lot, I'll try to fill in the gaps later, gotta get to bed my daughter has a 8:30 am soccer game!
Hope those staying got a m&g. my fingers are crossed for you!

Yes, but the best part was Jemaine quickly explaining it as the security guard hitting up on two chicks, who then immediately left the theater in tow with him.

On another note, sorry for all you ladies behind row three who will not have a chance to bear Jemaine's love children.

Overall, a great concert, although I wished they had done Robots. The hecklers weren't as bad as I was afraid of for such a derelict city, as Bret put it (although Jemaine, to his credit, commented that he could only imagine that Detroit must be as nice as the ornate Fox theater, with its sultans and tigers), and even seemed to encourage some heckling. The best response was breaking out into a very elaborate rendition of 'Rock the party,' including strobe lighting, after a shout out for the song.
Would you like to see my stimulus package??

Ok, I won't comment a lot here since I was only at the 11 pm......you may not have gotten Robots (which we did at 11) but we didn't get Business Time or Rhymenocerus vs. Hiphopopotamus.

I'll let Ardy or Kelly or someone else there at 8 tell you about the front row ladies.......and the underwear.

What a fabulous night!!!

It really wasn't a 'fight' two girls basically 'rushed' the stage - front and center. Immediately an usher was there trying to escort them away. They refused and kept dancing and waving to the guys. And at one point, one of the girls looked up at the stage and said something to the effect of 'they'll let us stay' and looked at the guys. Jemaine's response was 'don't bring us into this.' and then as they were finally escorted out, Jemaine started in about the usher hitting on them. No punches were thrown or anything like that, it was just annoying. Jemaine and Bret handled it beautifully.

Another tidbit: After Bret made the 'derelict' comment, Jemaine jumped in and said that Bret was really a hologram and that he hadn't really seen the city, but it must be as nice as the theater.

And on my way out after the show, I heard someone say that he saw the guys in downtown Plymouth that afternoon and went right up to them and said hello.

I'm excited to hear if there was a meet and greet after the second show...come on sleepy heads - spill!

Thanks gnomer and ufotofu for the accounts so far. It looks like the boys handled that situation with those girls well. Gosh, I can't wait to read about all the stories from this show in more detail now! :D

Okay, here's my account of the 8 pm show

Bear in mind that the two shows are starting to blend in my memory in some spots - I'm trying to keep them separate, but there are some parts I might get them mixed up

First of all, let me just say that the Fox Theater is GORGEOUS!

And the orchestra pit is on a movable platform that can be raised and lowered as needed. It shook just enough so that you noticed, but not enough that you could move with it.

Bret introduces Eugene, saying a little known fact about Eugene is that he is part wolf. Eugene does his stand up - very funny! I definitely want to check out his book now :)

Then the stage gets dark - smoke starts coming out, and I'm on Jemaine's side of the stage close to the end of the pit, so I can see "backstage" a bit and see the guys coming out. My heart - almost literally - stopped when I saw them. Just like being hit with a ton of bricks. I realize that this is IT. Here they are. They start singing and it's off! For some reason I thought that Jemaine would be kind of stiff on stage, but during TMD especially he was dancing hardcore! Shaking those Snake Hips and whatnot 8).

Here's the setlist: In no particular order

TMD
Hurt Feelings
Jenny
Stana
Carol Brown
I Told You I Was Freekie
Business Time (posted the story about this in the other thread)
Albi
Bus Driver's Song
Who Likes To Rock The Party? (per heckler's request)
I'm Not Crying
Issues (Think about it)
Sexy Lady/Sugalumps

Encore:
Demon Woman
HvR

Funny banter:
Two people got up after one of the shows to go get a drink, I presume - Jemaine says, "Where are they going? They're leaving? *pause* Security! Take these people out of here. We don't want them up here. But see, they left just...before...I gave the order *puts finger to ear like it's a walkie talkie piece* – Yis, now kill them. Ahh thank you, that was viry efficient of you. *to audience* it's been taken care of."

Those people came back a little later...
Jemaine: Oh you're back!
Bret: Where'd you go? You two were gone for AGES, you missed *looks at setlist* one song!
Jemaine: You missed a whole song...but at least you've got your beer...

NO FREEBIRD REQUESTS FOR EITHER SHOW!
The 8 pm show had maybe...12-15 major heckles. Jemaine turned them all around and I only saw him look slightly annoyed maybe once. Someone yelled something, I didn't hear it, but Jemaine said, "Did someone SERIOUSLY just shout out, "Australia"?"

The camera policy was weird. They SAID they were doing all these bag searches but they didn't really search too hard but I didn't want to risk it. I had mine very cleverly hidden and didn't want to try to get it back in its hiding place before going back through and risking not being able to get it back and having to put it back in my car, so I didn't take any pictures for this show.

But I did get some of the 11 pm, though they're mostly worthless.

I'll add/edit as I remember, but for now that's all I've got. IMHO the 11 pm show was better :)
