You guys should've seen it. It was a work of art how she had it all done up so it wouldn't be a distraction. Did the guys proud :D Mine - on the other hand - looked like felt and scotch tape mugged my camera...

I love everybody's camera anti-confiscation techniques. I used electrical tape to cover my blue light on the front and covered the viewfinder screen from 2 1/2 inches down to a 1 inch slit and thank goodness my camera is black.

The only bad thing is from all my pics, none of the photos were crisp, most had halos....except for one that I mistakenly had turned the flash on and it reflected off the mylar papermache collage fan thingy that was brought up onstage....oh well, at least the video mode worked
If I did I'd hold you tight into every single night & we'd fall asleep together & we'd wake up in the sunlight. Well, maybe I'm a dreamer, but, maybe one day you'll see, that dreams are......

I never thought of taping up my display screen, only cuz there's no viewfinder on the Nikon so I'd have NO idea what I was shooting because I'm a horrible judge of those things.

Did anybody mention that at one point, a girl shouted out, "I really really like you, Jemaine!" then I THINK he thanked her before he riffed on how INTERESTING it is that night after night, they get a SLEW of "I love you, Bret!" shouts, but then it's "really really like" for him? He was disappointed with how non-committed the statement was, I think. SO funny.

Also, randomly? = Bret during "Demon Woman," 'cept the guitar was V-shaped, but I saw that as I was typing my reply and giggled at how it reminded me of Bret. I'm a geek, sorry.

Hi Sonia! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'm soooooooo jealous you got to meet the guys afterwards! I was at that show too and I've been kicking myself for a week that I didn't stick around for the M&G. But I had no clue where to look for them in that vast complex (having only been there like once before when I was eight), and my SO and I both had to get to work early the next day. If only I had known then that they were going to stop doing meet and greets, I might have tried harder to locate those tour buses....

*sigh*

I agree it was totally funny that that girl would only commit to "really, really liking" Jemaine. I mean, if you're going to shout out your feelings, you might as well go all the way.

Great story, Sonia! Reminds me of Kent State, where a girl yelled to Jemaine, "Take off your clothes," rather unenthusiastically. Jemaine wisecracked that there must be a medical practitioner in the house.

And Bret would have made my night had he brought us fruit. By the time we met the guys, I hadn't eaten or slept for almost 24 hours. But no red delicious apples, bananas, or even kiwi fruit?

I actually used a felt with peel & stick backing and only peeled off the outer edges so the screen would stay unsticky........then I cut a window/flap in the center so I could see what I was shooting and then be able to shut it. Viry geeky.

This is awesome, Michael. It has a bit of the Brady Bunch vibe going on, in a Conchordian kinda way.... :D

Thank you for reading, Venus! That was, like, the most epic post/gig recap I've ever done. I felt bad afterwards that it was so long, but I didn't want to try and repress my squee. It was way too great a night :D

LauraK, is there any way to get a photo of your 'contraption?' Cause I'm seriously intrigued and it sounds epic.

Sonia- we didn't get a pic of the incognito-camera but it's easy. The felt I used was from the dollar store. It comes in a sheet that's paper-sized and the entire back is peel-and-stick. I got red to match my camera.
All I did was cut it slightly larger than my LCD screen and use a razor to just trim the very outer edge of the backing so that it would only stick on the outside edge of the screen- and it was quite sticky! I cut 3 sides of a rectangle in the center of the felt that was maybe 1/2" - 3/4" across (leaving the backing on) and so this was a little window I could open and close when actually aiming to take a pic.
On the front, I taped over the flash bar with 4-pieces-thick of black electrical tape. I'd taped it once, thinking that did the trick but decided to test it and see how it looked when taking a pic. Boy, am I glad I did as the flash could be seen right through that tape! 4 layers did the trick. I also taped over the little red-eye thingy.

There you go! :D

(I also cut an opening in the fabric at the bottom of my purse, put a piece of thin cardboard inside under which my camera would lie, and then put in velcro. Black velcro to keep it held back together. If they stuck their hand inside- it just felt like a perfectly flat purse-bottom.)

I went a bit overboard but it was my first concert and I was viry paranoid. It all worked out, I just know that I need a higher quality camer for the next show!

Oh I love reading really detailed accounts complete with all the little details and thoughts running through people's heads during the concert and meet and greet so I can really get a feel of the experience so thanks again:). Plus it helps noting down everything for your own benefit so you can look back at your account in years to come to keep the memory alive :D

And yes all these creatively taped cameras sound very intriguing haha :D

Just wanted to tell simplysonia how much I loved the recap! I was one of the family from Iowa that was with you at the meet & greet. Reading your account of it helps me believe that it actually happened and I didn't just dream the whole thing!

My best friend suprised me with 5 tickets to the show, so I called my kids in sick and we took off for Chicago. (five and a half hour drive) We drove straight to the Arie Crown to check things out and saw the busses. The security guard spilled that it was the FOTC busses. Now we knew where to go after the concert, because thanks to all you amazing folks on whatthefolk, I now knew that there was hope for a meet and greet! I loved the show. The sound was perfect. Every word they spoke was completely clear. They are so authentic and hilarius. Talented singers and musicians, too. The crowd was pretty lame. It seemed like a lot of couples on dates that didn't want to appear foolish... at least the crowd around me. I'm sure down front was better, although Bret even commented that we had a lot of room for improvement. lol.

My kids were all "in it to win it" for the meet and greet after. My friend had his doubts. He didn't even know who they were, so after about an hour he wanted to leave. We were having a great time talking to all the other fans, and chatting up the security guard who tried his best to disperse us. Ha, impossible.

One girl waited about and hour and 20 minutes then she had to go to work, and seriously Bret came out about 5 minutes after she left. I still feel so bad for her. Another sweet fan gave Bret something from the girl that left, so I hope she gets some satisfaction. Bret was so relaxed and friendly. He didn't seem tired or rushed at all, which amazed me. My kids were in shock. Bret drew a robot for my younger son and wrote the binary solo on his poster, and drew the flying guitar and wrote "rock the party" on my older son's poster. My little girl (who is totally in love with Bret) was grinning from ear to ear. Then I asked him to sign the pile of t-shirts that we bought. If I came home empty handed, my two oldest daughters would have killed me. I had also brought along some old New Zealand currency that I had as a souvenir from a trip to NZ. Bret turned the Queen of England into himself with his sharpie- guitar and unicorn shirt included. Jemaine drew glasses, sideburns and lips on Sir Edmund Hillary! So funny.

I have some pictures, not great ones but if I figure out how to post them, I will. I can hardly write about Jemaine because, because... oh you all know. Did I mention that the first thing I did when either one came toward me was squeal and hug each of them? Seriously, I'm so embarrassed. What was I thinking? I felt like two of my best friends in the whole world were standing in front of me. Probably should have just introduced myself instead. Oh well, it was totally spontaneous and neither one called security... In fact, they both hung around and talked for a bit even after all the pix and autographs were done. Yes, I had a brief conversation with Jemaine. I wish I would have told him how much joy and hilarity he and Bret have brought into our home! My husband and our 5 kids are all huge fans and practically have the shows memorized. My daughter knows just when to hit "mute" on the car stereo to block the naughty words. Anyway, I wish I would have told them instead of making small talk. Is it normal to replay the entire thing in your mind only trying to change parts of it? It's driving me crazy.

I was so thrilled by the entire evening that even though I was pulling in to my driveway at 6:15am, I was still wide awake and smiling. I've had moments of terror imagining how inappropriate it was to take my little ones to the show. I'm either the worst mother in the world or the coolest, depending on who you ask... My kids will never forget meeting the guys, and that is priceless to me. I just hope I don't turn up as the inspiration for a new ridiculous character in Season Three.

I also want to thank all of you. I really enjoy reading your entries, and so much of the info was helpful, not to mention entertaining!

Yes. You don't know how many times I've thought to myself, "Ugh if only I'd done..." "I should've said..." "What if I'd asked..."

What I find that helps is just reminding myself that, on this tour especially, a lot of shows didn't even get meet and greets - I was lucky enough to be at a show that got one - and got to share an amazing night with some great new friends, and I got to meet the both of them. And for a couple minutes, it was just me and Bret or me and Jemaine. One on one. And even though it didn't go exactly as I'd had planned in my mind - I'm lucky and happy that it happened at all :D

Great recap - so happy you got to meet them!

nonchalant- Awesome recap! I loved reading it! Yup, cool Mom...don't even worry about it. :) I LOVE that you hugged them! I'm sure they recognized you as an enthusiastic and sincere fan and not a Mel, lol! We'd love to see your pictures, don't worry- lots of ours came out fuzzy.
I really want to see those altered NZ bills...

I'm betting every one of us who's met them does the replay-with-imaginary-changes.

That's too funny :rolls: please do share that pic (and all the others..of course) with us :yay: What a lovely story, girl. I'm glad you got to meet them..they're amazing.
