Hello, my name is TedM. I've been listening to Flight of the Conchords for
only about six months now; but that's because I'm Canadian!

In Canada, we don't get HBO and FOTC is not very known here.

BUT

A couple friends showed me "The Humans Are Dead" from "Folk the
World" and I thought that it was the best song ever.

Now I'm a Conchord junkie, and I did find that I disliked the songs like
"The Humans Are Dead" because they didn't have much meaning.

But this new album is just amazing.

Ok let's get started!

Here is the track list, and I would like to post a mini review for each song.

//Flight of the Conchords (2008)\\
\\_______________________//

Foux du Fafa
Inner city pressure
Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenocerous
Think about it
Ladies of the World
Mutha'uckas
The Prince of Parties
Leggy Blonde
Robots
Boom
A kiss is not a contract
The Most Beautiful Girl
Business time
Bowie
Au Revoir

(A note, in this review I will be reviewing by means of comparing with
other versions)

Foux Du Fafa:
These guys are funny, for some reason they love to sing short bits in
french. And it's the type of singing that makes it obvious that they don't
speak french. There's not much difference in this version to the HBO
version, except for a little echo in their voices and louder instruments.
Oh, and BTW, people don't know what Foux Du Fafa means. I'm french, it
means "Crazy about 'fafa" Now Fafa is french slang that means "funny"
or "easy" So maybe their crazy about life being easy, or the song being
funny, etc.

Inner City Pressure:
Pretty much the same as the HBO version, a couple more sythesizing
added. Also throughout the middle to the end there is a low voice saying
"Pressure" at random times. At the end they added two lines. Like, "What
are you searching for? Hidden Treasure? All you'll find is "Inner city
Pressure" Then Bret says another thing but you'll have to buy the album
to find that out!
All in all, this version has been improved. It just sounds better.

Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenocerous
Ah the famed Gansta-folk crossover. This is more like the HBO version
than the classic One Night Stand version. Although they did add the line:
""But sometimes they're obscene like pornographic dream NC17 with ladies in a stream of margarine... hahaha, yeah some margarine." "
Also they made it more guitar based, and they took away those annoying sound effects. Great remake.
Good job FOTC!

Think about it
Complete with alambulence and honking, this song has turned for the
better. This is my favorite Conchords song. They made it better by
making it more guitar based and using the HBO lyrics. They even
changed "We're Breaking Down" to a more "Live" version. It sounds
really good though, and makes me laugh everytime.
This was a great remake.

Ladies of the World
...(Bret) 2, 3, 4, Just wanna do somethin.....
They made this song better. Made it more fantasy sounding. And at the
end they have about 30 seconds of "AaaaaaAAAaaaaAAAaaaaa...."
All in all, it's pretty much the same, but it sounds a lot better.

Mutha'uckas
Not much has changed here, more guitaring used make it sound a little
better. And there's no "Get your sh**ty bikes out of here..." at the
beginning.

The Prince of Parties
I see almost no difference, sorry.

Leggy Blonde
This is pretty cheap, it's the exact same song but they added some echo
when they do "Leggy, leggy, leggy, leggy, etc"
So not much difference.

Robots
Wow. This has got to be the best remake of Robots to date. They took
the HBO beginning and added "There is no more unethical treatment of
the elephants. Well, there's no more elephants so... yeah but it's still very
good"
They made the "Yes.. affirm.... affirmative" part easier to hear.
During their singing, there's some Techno in the background and their
voices are more robotic. Also they changed some notes around and it
sounds REALLY good. Get the album, just for this song!

Boom
Almost the same, changed the instuments though, and made the
background in the beginning a really low drum instead of the guitar we all
love. This song has improved and failed at the same time. All in all, I'd
say there isn't to much difference.

A Kiss Is Not A Contract
Not much difference, just nicer quality audio. Still a great song.

The Most Beautiful Girl
Has not changed. Except at the end they say, "And I suppose that you
would spend the rest of your time doing your normal job.... my place is
usually tidier than this..."
And they made the guitar clearer.

Business Time
Is essentially the same as the HBO version.

Bowie
They sang the beginning part (Nipple antenna and stuff) WAY to fast. But
I guess that's because the song was to long anyway. The ending is more
exciting than the HBO version. Check it out yourself, it's a change.

Au Revoir
A 15 second part where they say "Au Revoir" in different accents. No new
song here.

All in all for the album: 8/10.
Just because it sounded great!

Sincerely,

TedM[/b]

Ok last night I had a funny dream. So it was all like Albi chasing David Bowie through space. Then all of the sudden some robots came and killed Bowie. Now Albi was scared and he started crying, and he said he wasn't. That's right. :)

I really liked the way the guys' heads pop up when you open the CD cover. And the poster is now hanging in our apartment. Surprise!... I have the album artwork side hanging out, not the drawings of the guys. It's just so purty.

Actually just as a small note on your Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenocerous review, the line is actually: "But sometimes they're obscene like pornographic dream NC17 with ladies in a stream of margarine... hahaha, yeah some margarine."

American film ratings:

So it's more about porn and not about guns (M16)

Yeah sorry about that. I didn't have the song at my reach when writing the review. I fixed that.

They are getting a bit more known in Canada. Just the other week when I purchased my copy of BUST, the cashier told me she was going to see them at Sasquatch. I think she's the first person I've met who knew who they were. :)

BTW - Word on the street is that the CRTC is reviewing its policies and may allow HBO in Canada. ;)

IIRC the HBO series did air in Canada on another TV station. I forget which one now though.

That sounds REALLY cool!
I research it and found this: http://www.omegasource.com/2008/04/08/c ... to-canada/

That was probably Rogers. Rogers offers "Preview" weeks where you get to preview different channels/shows. One week Flight of the Conchords was on. But that's long over now. :([/quote]

Yeah, I think it was probably Movie Central - they tend to air HBO programs - I know it's available on satellite and premium cable packages... it doesn't come with my basic cable package. :?
I need to make friends with someone who has Movie Central. ;)
