Were you in the rear circle? Thanks for posting your review by the way. I was having second thoughts about how much I'll enjoy the Manchester gig after being to such a small one in comparison.

Rear Stalls. Another friend of mine was in the rear circle and she had a good view.

P.S. I think I know why the encore was so long compared to others. On Friday+Staurday nights, the UK concert curfew is usually raised from 10:30pm to 11:00pm. This gives artists a whole extra half hour to perform than on a week-day.

Wow JaHawk! It sounds like you all got an awesome show! :thumb:

I hope you can wash the yeasty beer out of your tea towel and it'll be good as new.

Does anyone else find it curious that they aren't doing more songs from Freaky? (Yet, at least.)

I'd love to hear Angels (older than the Freaky CD, but still), Fashion is Danger, You Don't Have To be a Prostitute, and more Carol Brown. :) Rambling Through the Avenues of Time...not sure how that'd play live... :hrm:

(Maybe they're saving it up for more touring....)

Hi there

Went to see the show last night, and it was chuffing amazing.

It was both one of the best musical gigs and one of the best comedy shows I've ever been to.

I'm a big fan of the lads, but I wouldn't say I'm especially committed or borderline obsessive like some on here (not meant as an insult - everyone's obssessive about something - for me it's Man United!). I got my tickets more out of luck of accidentally finding out they were coming to Manchester and then getting lucky when applying for tickets...

The boys - including the Orchestra - are so flipping talented. The musical skills on show were top top notch. And of course they were achingly funny...

The banter was great. I think they were surprised at how vocal the audience were - it made for great banter between songs...here are some mis-remembered mis-quoted bits that remain in my brain:

J: Hello Manchester, are you 'mad for it' (in bad Mancunian accent - a common saying associated with Manchester through the likes of Stone Roses and the Madchester scene)
*big cheer/much laughter from crowd*
J: Yeah that's right Manchester - we've googled you!
Manchester...it's a place in England...first language English...in Northern Europe...*laughter*
Yeah this is probably basic beginners stuff...quite basic stuff for you, probably...
B: Yeah, a lot of this information you're probably already aware of...
J: Yeah, but for us is all new and really interesting...

B: So Manchester...Madchester...what about some of this? *plays first few chords of Wonderwall, welcomed by boos* Ha! Not keen on that then!

*inaudible shout from the audience*
B: What was that? Fishlips?
J: I’m often referred to as Fishlips...due to the salty nature of my lips...and that gentleman has tasted them...while I was asleep...

J: We asked where we should go after the gig...and the guy said “No! You don’t wanna go out on a Saturday night! You’ll get stabbed!” – so we’ll probably stay in and watch some TV...
B: Was anyone stabbed on their way here today?
*shouts from the crowd*
J: Ah good! A couple there...
B: Still, it’s good to get stabbed early on...get it out of the way...

*shout from the crowd of “Where’s Murray!”*
B: Where’s Murray? We’re often asked where Murray and Mel are, but it’s difficult to say...with them being fictional...they could be anywhere...
J: He could have gone to a barbeque over at A.L.F’s...
*shout of “Season Three!” from the crowd*
J: Season Three? Of what? A.L.F? We’ll ask Murray to pass on the message...Yeah, why don’t they bring back A.L.F?

*A few shouts of “We love you Nigel”*
Nigel: A lot of my family are over today...

*Various shots of ‘I love you!’*
J: It doesn’t sound like you love me the way you’re saying it...sounds quite aggressive...there’s a lot of loving energy and a lot of aggressive energy in here tonight...and that’s not always a good mix...especially as there’s a few thousand of you, and only two of us...
B: It’s not a good ratio...

*someone shouts something*
J: Okay hush now...
*someone else shouts “Stab him Jemaine!”*
B: Stop him? *repeated shout of “Stab him!”* Slap him? *”STAB HIM!* Ah! Stab him!
J: Yeah, the problem is, you’re trying to say ‘stab him’, but your accent isn’t letting you...

*Bret starts scatting jazz style and points mic at audience who obligingly repeat what he’s said. He stops, and someone shouts “Waaay-Oh!” – everyone repeats “Waaay-aay-aay-Oh!”*
B: No no no! You can’t do it amongst yourselves!!

*During spandex finale, Bret jumps on to the lap of a bloke in the front row, inviting him to take a closer look at his sugarlumps, and notices the bloke has a camera...*
B: *grabs camera* Ah look! He’s taking a picture of my balls! No way!

I’ll sure there was much more... I’ll try and post if I mis-remember any more of it...

But in summary – they was bloody brilliant. Beg, steal or borrow a ticket for future shows if you can – it’ll be well worth it.
